We at UF Malmö and Model United Nations of Malmö take this pandemic seriously and follow strictly the advice and recommendations the Swedish Health Authorities, UF Malmö and Malmö University has given. Because of that, we unfortunately have to postpone the MUN of Malmö 2020 Conference to a later date.

United Nations of Malmö Conference 2020 will bring you and other delegates an amazing platform to discuss and debate the topical question of climate refugees in South Asia and the Pacific Area.

The Conference will be also part of the official UNCHR Climate Change Refugee Challenge for Model United Nations

"The resolutions that emerge from these debates will be put before a jury composed of UNHCR members, young refugee leaders and independent experts. Awards will be announced in 2021. The best ideas will be shared with policymakers and be promoted on UNHCR’s social media channels, which are followed by millions of people."

UNSC (UN Security Council)


Topic: Maintaining Environmental Security on the Case of Myanmar 

The United Nations Security Council (SC) is one of the most prominent councils within the United Nations founded in 1949 with the goal to maintain international peace and security. UNSC consists of 15 members: Five permanent veto-powers (France, China, UK, USA, and Russia), and ten non-permanent members elected for two years. The council acts to respond to threats of international peace and security, and, therefore, has the special rules under the UN Charter going beyond the other UN committees. We are searching for the applicants passionate about making an impact on global level politics and security issues. 


Available Countries:

Permanent members*: People's Republic of China, USA, Russian Federation, UK, and France

Non-permanent members for 2020: Belgium, Dominican Republic, Estonia, Germany, Indonesia. Niger, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, South Africa, Tunisia, and Viet Nam 


Note: Both new and experienced delegates are welcome to apply. Please, note that * priority to represent permanent members will be given to the delegates with prior MUN experience. 


UNEP (UN Environment Programme)


Topic: Introducing Environment Policies to Mitigate Human Migration in Indonesia 

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system, and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment.


Both new and experienced delegates passionate about the environment and sustainable development are welcome to apply: no prior experience is needed. 


UNHCR (The UN Refugee Agency)


Topic: Climate-Driven Migration Crisis in Bangladesh 


UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, is a global organization dedicated to saving lives, protecting rights and building a better future for refugees, forcibly displaced communities and stateless people. In this committee, you will closely work with complex topics related to climate refugees and displacement. Your primary role will be to safeguard the rights and well-being of people who have been forced to flee.


The committee is suitable both for advanced and new delegates passionate about refugee management.


ECOSOC (Economic and Social Council)


Topic: Economic and Social Costs of Climate Change Displacement in the Pacific Island States


The Economic and Social Council is at the heart of the United Nations system to advance the three dimensions of sustainable development – economic, social and environmental. It is the central platform for fostering debate and innovative thinking, forging consensus on ways forward, and coordinating efforts to achieve internationally agreed goals. The UN Charter established ECOSOC in 1945 as one of the six main organs of the United Nations.


The committee is suitable both for experienced and new delegates passionate about discussing economic and social aspects of climate refugee displacement and finding respective solutions. 

To be able to apply you should have turned 18 before the start of the conference. Please note that we will not be able to provide support regarding VISA application. 


Deadline and Payment Information: 

Deadline to apply for the MUN of Malmö as a delegate and a chair is 14 March, 23:59 pm (CET). The conference fee is 500 SEK. Early bird fee is 400 SEK if applying before March 14, 23:59 pm.
